October 18th is the 25th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System’s US release, so we thought we’d do something special. There’s a good chance every videogame website will do a “Best NES Games” feature of some sort this month, and since we’re kind of a part of that community, we felt obliged to contribute. Of course, On the Stick isn’t content to simply follow the well-trodden path, so we’re going to try something a little different.
This is the first ever NES game draft. The basic premise is that we’ve got one copy of every NES game ever released and we each get to take 5 of them. Due to some crazy new law or something, these five games are the only NES games we’ll ever be allowed to play again. We could take our shirts off and fight to the death over Mega Man 2, but we’re civilized human beings (and no one wants to see me without a shirt on). So, in the interest of fairness, we decided to draft them. It’s a snake style draft, order determined randomly, and the result will be our list of the 25 raddest NES games.
Since this is a long episode and took way more time to assemble than I’d imagined, it’s been split into two parts. This is part 1. Part 2 can be found here
